Well done to all the little treasures at Kincraig Primary School. They did fantastically well when they raised £300 for Meningitis UK on Friday 10th December. Pupils had a non uniformed day and ran stalls selling cakes and reindeer food.
The day was a roaring success with the reindeer food proving a particular hit. All 54 bags of food sold out in minutes and more orders had to be taken. Cakes were a big success too. A great day was had by all.
“For the first week there was hardly any wind at all” Dave commented “then four days of high winds and a 5 metre swell made progress even more difficult”
As a result, what was anticipated to be a 15 day crossing took 21 days. This meant that food and water had to be rationed – not easy on a racing yacht with temperatures often above 35 oC.
When “Eira” crossed the finishing line in Saint Lucia she had travelled a total of 3192 miles. With numerous ripped sails, countless running repairs and many cuts and bruises it was a challenging journey. “Even with these circumstances we had some fantastic times and many, many laughs” Dave reported. “it was an amazing experience”
Dave’s put together a video so you can view some of the lowlights and highlights of the crossing. s if all this wasn’t achievement enough Dave has also managed to raise £1,800 for Meningitis UK. Well done Dave and great to have you back.
Lucie’s Story
Lucie was born a beautiful little girl. Sixteen days later she tragically was taken by Meningitis. We would like to share her story to raise awareness of how fast this disease can take lives.
Well Done Kincraig!
In an effort to celebrate Lucie’s life and leave a lasting legacy this website and the charity forLucie was created. It’s aim is simply to raise awareness of Meningitis and funds to help others. This is run on entirely a voluntary basis by the friends and family of Lucie. All money raised in Lucie’s name goes directly to helping those good causes that supported Lucie and her family.
You can find details of charity events and fundraising in Lucie's memory and how you can help at this website. There's also further information, links and resources on Meningitis. You can also stay in touch with forLucie news by following on Twitter.

Donations
A little over a month ago we lost Lucie. We asked that rather than buy flowers forLucie’s funeral those who wanted to donate to Meningitis UK via justgiving.com.
We never expected the response that we got. Over that period you’ve managed to raise £7,500. This is a fantastic achievement. If you should wish to donate you can still do this by visiting justgiving.com/forlucie

Louise Hewison
Louise must be mad. She’s decided to run both London and Brighton Marathons forLucie on consecutive weekends. Please support her.
On the 21st November, Dave Youds joined 10 other crew members aboard the Finnish yacht “Eira” taking part in the ARC 2010 transatlantic race from Gran Canaria to the Caribbean. Dave was making this crossing in Lucie’s memory and with the aim of raising funds for MeningitisUK
The crew made good progress and averaged 150 miles a day but, as you might expect some days were better than others.
